Crazy little things about me!!

So i don't know if a lot of people are interested about life (though i have some doubt...) but in case some people want to know more about me, here it comes!!

My real name is Marine, I really love my name because in French (my native language) it's mean "from the sea" and i love the sea!! I'm born and live in France. I love english and American culture and literature (especially Jane Austen, Oscar Wilde, Edgar Allan Poe and Louisa May Alcott). I'm also very interested by Indian and Korean cultures, even if I don't speak their language.

My principal hobby is reading, I'm a huge bookworm!! Actually I am so crazy about books that i want to become a librarian!! But currently I'm a collège student at La Sorbonne (also knows as P4 for Paris 4). My other expectation about life is to become a good mother and to have an happy family. For me Family and Friends are the two most precious things in a human being's life!

As far as my taste in books are concern, i like everything!! Mystery, Science-fiction, Gothic novels, romance novels, detective story... I particularly enjoy reading authors who have a good sens of humour and irony. My favorite books are Persuasion (Jane Austen), Terry Pratchett's Book, The Hitchhiker's guide to galaxy(Douglas Adams) Dune (Frank Herbert) Divine secrets of the Ya-Ya sisterhood (Rebecca Wells) the Importance of being Earnest (Oscar Wilde) and Poe's short story.

My favorite TV show of all time are: The Addams family (the original one) That's 70's show, One Tree Hill, Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, Ally McBeal, Guiding Light, General Hospital and The Young and the Restless.

So that all I have to say about me!!

Bonjour Marine! I haven't seen you around the boards in awhile. Well mainly because I don't post much on RTN any more. I just wanted to say I love your optimism and esp admire you keeping it up amongst all the meltdowns that seem to occur daily in the s/s thread. Kudos to you.

    Hey!!
Glad to see you again, well to read you again!! I am a natural optimistic, mostly because being pessimistic make me feel bad and I hate it!! I hope you will post more often! despite the bad news, there is a lot to comment either to mock or either to try to find the truth being all the lie!! No one know what TPTB want to do, once the carnival over we will know certainly more.
I really believe that in the end it is the fans who have the last word, without fans there is no rating. Bad rating mean bad publicity and bad reputation.
So I stay positive because sooner or later, GH will be good again.

Wow, I'm impressed you tried Faulkner. English is my first language and I didn't understand the little I read. I know what you mean about reading or watching movies in their original language. There is a lot that can be lost in translation. Plus with moves I like to hear the sound of the language and not some boring person dubbing the voices.

    Marine in English is Marina

Well, my library doesn't have a lot of choice about original books!! and I admit that i have to take the french version in order to understand the details!! but i kinda get the main plot of the book!!

Yes, we lose so much with translation!! their is a lot of English nuances that cannot be translate in french. Their is even some expression or words that don't exist in France. And when a movie makes a reference to American culture it's generally change for a reference to french culture... For example. I was watching Y&R Friday and at one point Phyllis feign to be angry at her son, but in fact she is just joking. Well the person who doubt her in french play it as if she was really angry at him. I was so mad when I see it!! So I really prefer watching the original version!!!

Oh, I like Marina!! Some of my friends call me like that. Or Blue, because in french navy blue is saying "bleu marine"!! (they doesn't say "bleu" because in french it's mean something ells that is not very nice... So they use the english version!!)

Bienvenue, Marine! My roommate as your name, well the English version of it. You are a girl after the same heart. I'm a self-professed book worm as well. Some of my favourite books are The Art of Travel, In a Sunburned Country, Norwegian Wood, Professor and the Mad Man and The Secret History.

Your roommate as the same name than me? That funny! and how do you write it in English?

I don't know the books you've mention but I wrote their name and I will read them!! Right know I'm trying to read English book in their original language and not the French translation of them!! so far I've tried Faulkner, Fitzgerald and Louisa May Alcott. I like the tree of them but I understand Alcott better than the two others!!

But i found it more interesting and passionating to read books in their original language than in french, like movies. I rather see them in O.V than in French. It's difficult to understand everything, but it's more authentic (I don't know if I'm very clear...) and English is such a wonderful language!!
